Supplements

I am a foodie. I have always counseled my patients we dont need supplements, we need a healthy diet.

I am often asked "what is the best calcium supplement?." I insist the best is in your food. Or perhaps the best is the one you will afford and take consistently if you really need a supplement. Are you sure you even need a supplement? This is why I believe it is more efficient to deliver care in a different way. Why not gather 10 of us to talk about it for 90 minutes. Fully explore the topic and learn together and know what is really happening in this body. Come meet with me in a group and then later alone to have a PERSONALIZED plan for YOU that works.

Digestion starts in the mouth with chewing. Tablets like stone are they really being absorbed? Perhaps they interfere with absorption in the end.

Sometimes supplements are necessary. People with malabsorption often need some support. We as a culture are living long lives with issues surrounding short gut, bariatric surgery, celiac disease, at least we have alternatives to keep us going. If the brain is functioning some people live with tubes and IV nutrition and lead long productive lives. Optimizing gut health improves absorption from food. And our guts really should be acidic to break down the food we eat. GLP-1 medications slow gastric transit so you feel full longer and get more from less. When taking this form of treatment you will not feel well if you are only eating cupcakes.

Unfortunately we are surrounded by food filled with things we dont need. Artificial colors, preservatives, chemicals, pesticides and antibiotics to name just a few. And economics are skewed. Potato chips cost less than dehydrated strawberries at the grocery store. Supply and demand.

As I embark on my business journey I note the supplement industry makes billions. They can sell us the zinc for your cold. There is evidence that it will shorten the duration of your cold. I can find the research article but am not going to take the time for this today. I encourage you to ask yourself if it really work if you take it every day? Lets use our brains. Close your eyes, and picture the periodic table. What can Zinc freely bind to? And as a society we wonder why we are tired all the time:)

In the EU there is markedly more regulation of supplements. My bone patients that travel have noticed things like "when I was in Germany this was the bone builder product on the shelf". I review the label and it is vitamin D and K. Not strontium, a common supplement that really seems to work for my patients here in the USA. The truth is that Strontium does improve bone density because it is a heavy metal that binds to bone. So your bone density improves, YAY! In the EU it is not available because the drug itself did not decrease fractures despite effects on Bone Density. Mercury is also a heavy metal and so is lead. Dr. Peristalsis was a Greek Physican who is quoted to say: “All things are poisons, for there is nothing without poisonous qualities. It is only the dose which makes a thing poison.”

As I launch this business I have been critical. I have looked at different producers of supplements for those of you who really need it. I am pleased to offer my clients a great discount from Fullscript. Here you can have access to thousands of highest quality brand supplements. For example Pure Encapsulations, or Metagenetics. At a discount they offer you more than 20,000 products that in this area are sometimes difficult to find on the shelves.

I am offering subcutaneous injections or intramuscular injections to correct deficiencies that is not covered by a short-sighted insurance company who thinks you can absorb it from your diet, when you haven't been able to for years. For example vitamin B12. Vitamin D. Not everyone needs it. But some of you do.

Fullscript has also partnered with Quest and other labs to provide discounts for your labs and hormone testing.

Im here to help you how you want to be helped. You have a choice.

Some treatments I offer are "off label" or not FDA approved, or not well studied. I have asked for the EVIDENCE that diphenhydramine for sleep is well studied and safe for your insomnia. I have been looking for it for years. What if it gives you memory loss. This is a fine example of making the best of a side effect.

What are you taking?
