Wound Care Services

Duration:
59 minutes

Sometimes you need someone to help you with that wound. At Integrated Wellness, our NP is wound care certified. She can help find the best treatment to speed your chronic wound healing.

There are stages to wound healing:

  • Homeostasis: Our body stops the bleeding, forms a clot.
  • Inflammation: White cells move in to heal the wound. The cells clean the wound This can occur the day of the wound and last up to 2 weeks.
  • Proliferation: The body is making new cells, repairs broken blood vessels.
  • Remodeling: Remodeling is the last phase of the wound-healing process. The wound fully closes and the cells used for repair are no longer necessary; the body removes these cells through apoptosis (cellular death). This phase usually starts around three weeks after the injury and continues for a year or longer. The skin can look scarred and is not as strong as uninjured skin

A chronic nonhealing wound is stalled. Often it is in the inflammatory phase. The reason the wound is not healing can be multifactorial and could include:

  • Uncontrolled blood sugar
  • Autoimmune issue
  • Pressure on the wound
  • Lack of oxygen to the wound site
  • Biofilm within the wound and a different cleanser is needed
